A 36-year-old man has been charged in relation to a fatal traffic crash in Coolum Beach that killed a three-year-old boy.
The boy died after a head-on crash, which injured five others on the Sunshine Motorway near the Coolum-Yandina Road roundabout on Monday, May 30, 2022.
The Coolum Beach man has been charged with two counts each of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death or grievous bodily harm and one count each of drug driving and driver failing to restrain a child under 4.
Police allege the man was driving a silver Mitsubishi Pajero southbound on the Sunshine Motorway when it collided with a Mazda CX-9 heading north.
Two three-year-old passengers were seated in the rear of the Pajero.
The male child suffered critical injuries and died in the Sunshine Coast University Hospital the next day.
The man and female child sustained minor injuries.
The 38-year-old female driver of the Mazda and a 12-year-old female passenger sustained serious and significant injuries and were only discharged from hospital yesterday.
A four-year-old boy from this vehicle sustained minor injuries.
The man was granted police bail and will appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Friday, August 26.
