A man has been remanded in custody over the alleged murder of a 69 year-old man in the Sunshine Coast hinterland last Thursday.
The body of former teacher’s aid, Christopher Gwin, was found by an acquaintance at his Conondale home on Saturday afternoon after he hadn’t been seen for several days.
Police allege the 68 year-old Maroochydore man went to Mr Gwin’s home in Kilcoy Lane between 10am and 1pm on Thursday the 11th of May.
They say an unprovoked assault occurred and it’s alleged Mr Gwin was stabbed and died a short time later.
Police say the men knew each other.
The Maroochydore man has been charged with one count each of murder and interfering with a corpse.
He didn’t appear in court yesterday and it is being reported he will be assessed in prison under the Mental Health Act.
The case was adjourned and he is next due in court on August 18.
Detectives are asking for anyone with information to come forward, including nearby residents with dashcam or CCTV footage taken near Mr Gwin’s property in the past week, particularly on Thursday May 11 between 10am and 1pm.
