Update: A photo has been released of an 87-year-old man found deceased on a Noosa Heads beach, in the hope it will encourage more witnesses to come forward.
Detectives investigating John Kerr’s death are calling for anyone who saw him in the area near Hastings Street or a pathway to the beach at Noosa Woods, between 5am and 7am on Sunday (June 18), to contact them.
Investigations are continuing.
Earlier: Sunshine Coast detectives are continuing to appeal for members of the public to come forward with information as they investigate the death of an 87-year-old local man on a beachfront path at Noosa Heads yesterday morning.
As part of the homicide investigation, police are appealing to anyone who may have seen a man who was naked, or in various stages of undress, anywhere near the northern end of Hastings Street or walking into the Noosa Woods pathways between 5am and 7am yesterday, to contact them.
A 27-year-old Gympie man remains in police custody and has been charged with the serious assault of a 69-year-old man on Hastings Street around the same time.
It is believed the second assaulted man was not known to the dead man.
The local man was found unconscious and later died on the boardwalk path just inside Noosa Woods around six yesterday morning.
The 27-year-old will face the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on the serious assault charge this morning.
Meanwhile, the Noosa Mayor Clare Stewart has released a statement on the local man’s death.
Cr Ctewart said “with the news of yesterday’s tragic death in Noosa, like many in our community I am heartbroken and devastated”.
“On behalf of councillors and our community, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends at this difficult time.
“There is no doubt this senseless loss of one of our residents will have a profound impact on many in our community,” Cr Stewart said.
