Dolphins captain Jesse Bromwich is regretting a moment of “madness” in his last NRL game.
The 338 game veteran prop was sin-binned for a high tackle on Knights’ captain Kalyn Ponga in the 68th minute of the game.
Newcastle was ahead 14-0 at the time but the Phins managed to score a 14-6 win.
“It’s a bit of an overwhelming feeling that I left the team and the club down, with that 10-minute sin-bin,” Bromwich said.
“Once that goes away, I’ll deal with the whole retirement thing, but it sucks going out like that.”
Dolphins coach Wayne Bennett, who is also leaving the club but will continue his career at South Sydney, was impressed but not surprised at Bromwich’s response.
“That’s the psych of the guy,” Bennett said.
“He doesn’t like letting the team down, and he got the sin-bin, and he’s got no-one else to blame but himself and he’s not blaming anybody else.
“He’s accepting responsibility, that’s how he feels, and that’s how he should feel.”
The Dolphins won 11 games this season to finish 10th and were in finals contention right up until the full-time siren sounded yesterday.
