A young woman has been charged, accused of ignoring police and driving close to marathon runners on a cordoned off road at the weekend.
Officers allege they directed a vehicle to stop, as it travelled along Cottontree Esplanade around 8.15am on Sunday, while the road was closed for a race.
But the driver allegedly sped off, running over traffic cones and coming close to a number of runners.
Police say the vehicle also struck a gutter before continuing north onto Duporth Avenue and leaving the scene.
A 20-year-old Maroochydore woman has since been charged with a string of offences including dangerous operation of a vehicle, failure to comply with requirement to stop vehicle, driving unlicensed, burglary, and dangerous drug (cannabis) possession.
She’s also accused of possessing a knife in public, stealing and obstructing police.
The woman is due to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court today.
