The “Boy from Cooroy” Queensland’s Racehorse of the Year

Cooroy-bred racehorse “Uncommon James” has been crowned Queensland Horse of the Year at the 2023 TAB Queensland Thoroughbred Awards.

The five year-old gelding, owned by local businessman Peter Lavin, confirmed his status as one of the nation’s star sprinters in the 2022/23 season, with a Group 1 win in the Oakleigh Plate in February.

The “Boy from Cooroy”, as he has been dubbed, also won the Listed Regal Roller Stakes at Caulfield in August 2022.

He has had 11 starts, for 6 wins, 3 seconds and a most recently a 3rd placing in the Group 1 Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley last month.

He was also named Queensland 4 year-old and Older Horse of the Year at the awards.
