Even though many Australians don’t currently know what day it is and have belly’s well over stocked on Christmas ham, online there has been a wide variety of reactions after a surprising sight in supermarkets, hot cross buns making an early appearance, even as many are still yet to even think about packing up their Christmas decorations!
A post in a gluten-free Facebook group sparked the chatter after sharing a photo of Aldi’s Baker’s Life Gluten Free Hot Cross Buns, available in both fruit and chocolate flavors.
When asked about the early launch, an Aldi spokesperson explained it’s all about giving shoppers what they want and for some that is year-round hot cross buns.
“As one of the most popular seasonal ranges in stores, each year we experience increasing demand for Hot Cross Buns to be available earlier in the year, which is why we are proud our popular Baker’s Life Hot Cross Buns are in stores from the 26 December 2024,” an Aldi spokesperson told news.com.au.
“The Australian made Baker’s Life range will include traditional fruit Hot Cross Buns, fruitless, chocolate chip and gluten free.
“Our customers can also look forward to the addition of some new exciting varieties closer to Easter! Keep an eye out in catalogue or hop on our website to see what delicious treats will be available.”
Aldi isn’t the only supermarket kicking off hot cross bun season early!
Woolworths has brought back fan-favorites like Fairy Bread and Cadbury Caramilk hot cross buns, available in stores and online from December 26. But if you’re craving something different, they’re also offering chocolate, brioche chocolate, fruit, and apple cinnamon flavors. Plus, gluten-free options are on the menu with three delicious varieties to choose from.
Woolworths Hot Cross Bun Expert and Bakery Merchandise Manager, Donald Keith, said: “Customers could not get enough of the Fairy Bread flavour last year – it was a fan favourite – and we’re excited to be bringing even more of them to shelves this year.
Coles has joined the hot cross bun craze, unveiling their delicious range just in time for the season!
But there’s more to love than just the taste, 20 cents from every six and nine-pack sold will be donated to Redkite, helping families facing childhood cancer. This heartwarming initiative runs until January 1, so get in quick and grab a pack (or two) to help make a difference while enjoying a classic treat!
